Hot Shooting Pushes No. 14/13 Iowa Past IU

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- No. 14/13 Iowa caught fire in the second half to defeat Indiana inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Sunday night, 81-64. The Hawkeyes shot 61.3 percent in the final 20 minutes.
Indiana's Jess Walter scored a career-high 18 points in the effort, shooting 6-of-7 from the field, including 5-of-5 from 3-point range. Alexis Gassion had her second double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds as Amanda Cahill added 10 points.
Indiana jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a Tyra Buss field goal and a pair of Gassion free throws before back-to-back Iowa treys gave the Hawkeyes its first lead of the game.
Trailing 17-15 later, a Karlee McBride 3-pointer put the Hoosiers in front 18-17 with 10:14 left in the half. The Hawkeyes then strung together a 9-0 run over the next 5:15 to open up a 26-18 advantage before Gassion halted the Iowa run with a layup at the 4:46 mark.
An Ally Disterhoft 3-point field goal gave Iowa its largest lead of the half at 33-20 with just over two minutes remaining in the half. IU answered with a 6-0 run thanks to treys from Taylor Agler and Walter to make it a seven-point margin. The Hawkeyes would take a 35-26 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Iowa used a 10-2 run and hot shooting to build a 52-34 advantage with 13:57 to play. The Hoosiers cut the deficit to 13, but IU could not overcome the Hawkeye offensive attack in the second half.
Iowa dished for 26 assists on its 32 made field goals and had only 10 turnovers. The Hawkeyes also outrebounded the Hoosiers 36-27 and scored 21 points off of IU's 16 turnovers. IU shot 17-of-19 from the free throw line for the game.
Indiana will next head to Ann Arbor to battle Michigan on Wednesday Feb. 18. That contest will tip at 7 p.m. ET inside the Crisler Center.
