Hoosiers Fall to No. 8 Georgia, 9-1

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif.. - The Indiana softball team fell to No. 8 Georgia in five innings on Thursday in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, 9-1. Bulldog pitcher Brittany Gray did not allow a single hit in the contest.
The Bulldogs (11-0) picked up three runs in the bottom of the first after an RBI groundout by Paige Wilson, followed by a pair of doubles from Alex Hugo and Tina Iosefa.
Georgia added two more runs in the following inning to make it 5-0 through two.
The Hoosiers (2-9) got on the board in the top of the third as Rebecca Blitz plated her eighth run of the year, which is tied for second on the team. The freshman reached first base after being hit on a pitch by Gray. After stealing second, Blitz scored on a throwing error by Georgia.
However, Indiana would get no closer as the Bulldogs scored three more runs in the bottom of the third before bringing in the decisive run in the fifth.
Senior Miranda Tamayo (1-5) picked up the loss in the game, while Lora Olson came in for a solid relief outing, pitching 2.1 innings and giving up only two runs.
Indiana’s second game of the day comes against No. 12 UCLA later this evening at 8:30 p.m. ET.
