CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Indiana set season highs in runs (15), hits (14) and runs batted in (15) to even its series at College of Charleston at one game apiece with a dominating 15-1 win Saturday afternoon at The Ballpark at Patriots Point.
Heading into Saturday, all seven of IU's games had been decided three runs or less, but the Hoosiers made sure that wasn't the case in their eighth outing.
The Hoosiers (4-4) took a 5-1 lead into the eighth inning before exploding with five runs in the each of the final two frames for the final score.
RHP Christian Morris (1-0) earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing just one run (unearned) on five hits while tossing three strikeouts.
Three Hoosiers had three or more RBI, with Casey Rodrigue batting in a career-high and team-best four. Craig Dedelow and Will Nolden each had three.
Six different Hoosiers combined for a season-best seven extra-base hits, the first of which were back-to-back RBI doubles from Logan Sowers and Nick Ramos to score IU's first two runs in the fourth inning.
Rodrigue became the fifth Hoosier (sixth time) to hit two triples in a game all-time at Indiana. His first gave IU a 3-0 lead in the fifth and the second scored IU's fifth run of the eighth inning for a 10-1 lead.
Three of IU's extra-base hits came in the eighth, with Austin Cangelosi and Nolden ringing up two-RBI doubles after Brad Hartong, Sowers and Ramos loaded the bases with one out. IU would score five runs on five hits and an error while still leaving three on base in the stanza.
It was a different story, but the same result in the ninth inning. IU quickly loaded the bases again on a hit by pitch, a fielder's choice and an error on the same play and a walk.
Nolden's fielder's choice gave him his third RBI in the ninth, leaving runners on the corners with an 11-1 lead after Chris Sujka scored.
After Brian Wilhite walked to load the bases again, Rodrigue's ground out scored IU's 12th run. Craig Dedelow hit IU's fifth double of the day to score Wilhite and Nolden before Demetrius Webb picked up an RBI single in his first career at bat to complete the scoring for the Hoosiers.
The series finale between Indiana and College of Charleston is pegged for Sunday, March 1, at Noon ET. The game can be listened to online at IUHoosiers.com.
