CHICAGO -- The Indiana men's basketball team lost in Friday night's Big Ten quarterfinal game against Maryland, 75-69. Yogi Ferrell was the leading scorer for the Hoosiers with 18 points, followed by Troy Williams with 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field.
The Hoosiers (20-13, 9-9 Big Ten) and Terrapins shot out of a cannon to start the game. After a fury of high-flying dunks and up-tempo offense from both teams, Maryland (27-5, 14-4 Big Ten) led 42-40 at halftime. The game was an airtight competition all the way to the end. But the Hoosiers struggled from long range throughout the game, going 7-of-24 from the three-point line. It was enough for Maryland to hold off the Hoosiers for the win.
Robert Johnson, who started in tonight's contest, netted two 3-pointers and 10 points in total to be the third Hoosier to hit double-figures.
In addition to Williams' offensive production, he grabbed nine rebounds - five off of the offensive glass - and recorded two blocks. Emmitt Holt had a standout game from the bench. Holt led the Hoosiers with a career-high 12 rebounds - including six offensive boards - and three blocks to be a key factor in Indiana's defensive efficiency.
As a team, the Hoosiers played well on defense. Their high energy and use of multiple defensive sets helped the Hoosiers force seven steals in the game, of which Collin Hartman had three. The Hoosiers recorded six blocks as a team as well, and held Maryland to 38 percent shooting in the second half.
