BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana clinched the series win over No. 12 Cal State Fullerton, completing a doubleheader sweep with a 2-0 win and its first shutout of the season Saturday at Bart Kaufman Field.
IU, which has won nine consecutive games and is now 4-0 at home, scored runs in the first and eighth innings to secure the series.
The Hoosiers struck out 12 batters in the win, including a team-high five from starting pitcher Caleb Baragar and a career-high four from Austin Foote in just 1.1 innings of action. Brian Hobbie earned the win, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing zero runs on just one hit.
Indiana moved to 4-0 in contests in which it scores in the first inning as the Hoosiers wasted no time putting a run on the board.
Casey Rodrigue tripled to center field to lead off the bottom of the first and Craig Dedelow's sacrifice fly scored him a batter later. The Hoosiers loaded the bases with one out after Brad Hartong singled and Scott Donley and Logan Sowers walked, but were unable to build on the 1-0 advantage.
The Hoosiers stranded ten Cal State Fullerton batters on base throughout the game.
Facing two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Austin Cangelosi homered to left center to give IU a 2-0 edge and the final score.
