Indiana Earns 1,000th Program Win on Sunday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Led by a balanced offensive attack and another impressive pitching performance, the Indiana softball team picked up its 1,000th program victory against IPFW, 9-2. The win is the fourth in the row for the Hoosiers and sixth in the last eight games.
For the fourth consecutive game, Indiana pitchers Lora Olson and Miranda Tamayo held the opposition to just two runs. Tamayo picked up the win for the Hoosiers (9-18), tossing four innings in relief and giving up just one unearned run on four IPFW hits.
On the offensive side, the Indiana bats came out swinging, plating one run in the first on an RBI double by Erin Lehman to score Rebecca Blitz, the first of six Hoosier doubles in the game.
After IPFW tied it up in the top of the second, Indiana answered with back-to-back RBI doubles by freshmen Mena Fulton and Taylor Uden to make it a 3-1 Indiana lead. Next batter up, freshman Rachel O’Malley smacked her first career home run, a two-run shot to center field.
For the 8th game of the season, the Hoosiers knocked multiple homers as a solo shot by Kassi Farmer in the third extended the lead to 6-1 in the third inning.
The Mastodons would get one back in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by Caitlin DeLong before the Hoosiers added three unanswered runs by on a CaraMia Tsirgos RBI double in the fourth followed by an RBI double by O’Malley and an RBI single by Katelyn Conenna.
Indiana closes out play in the Hoosier Classic on Monday as the team faces North Dakota State at 3 p.m., a game which was postponed on Friday due to rain.
