BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the first time in its history, the Colombian Women's National Team earned a victory at the FIFA Women's World Cup after posting a 2-0 upset win over France on Saturady in Moncton.
"My team are very ambitious and they showed that again today against France," Fabian Taborda, the Colombia coach said after the win. "We're going to unwind a little now, before we turn our thoughts to the next match. We've proved that we're not just here to make up the numbers."
For the second consecutive match, former Indiana women's soccer player Orianica Velasquez was in the starting lineup and played all 90 minutes to help post the shutout win.
Colombia is now on top of Group F (4 points) with one match remaining in group play while England and France are just behind them with 3 points. Mexico is fourth with one point through the first two matches.
Velasquez and Colombia will play England on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. ET in Olympic Stadium in Montreal. The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
