Colombia Advances to Knockout Stage at Women's World Cup

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In the final match of group play, Colombia suffered a 2-1 loss to England in Group F of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup at Olympic Stadium in Montreal. The result means Colombia advances to the knockout stage by finishing third in their group.
The opponent for Colombia is not officially set, as the outcomes of other matches on Wednesday will effect who the opponent will be. Round of 16 takes place June 21-23 at various sites across Canada.
For the third straight match at this World Cup, Velasquez was in the starting lineup for Colombia, positioned as the left back. She played all 90 minutes in the match, just as she has in the first two matches.
England scored a pair of goals in the first half before Colombia was able to draw to within a goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time in the second half.
Velasquez, a native of Bogota, Colombia, is the only IU women's soccer player to ever play in the FIFA Women's World Cup as she is participating in her second World Cup (Germany 2011). She is also the only IU women's soccer player to compete in an Olympic Games (London 2012).
