CHICAGO – The Indiana men's golf team used a final round team score of 300 to overtake Marquette and finish second at the Northern Intercollegiate at Beverly Country Club in Chicago. It marks the Hoosiers best team finish since a second place finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate on March 1, 2016.
Junior Brendon Doyle led three Hoosiers inside the top 16 with a tie for eighth – matching the best finish of his career – while Andrew Havill (T14) and Brock Ochsenreiter (T16) joined him.
"I thought we had a pretty good team effort these last two days," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "We got contributions from everyone in the lineup, and that's what you have to have to be successful in collegiate golf. The greens were as fast as any we have seen this year, so I liked that we were able to adjust to them and come away with a second place finish."
Speaking to that team effort, Doyle's final round 77 was the score that the Hoosiers dropped, but he was still able to post the best individual finish after a steady first 36 holes. His overall score of 220 (+7) matches his best tournament score in relation to par this season (Olympia Fields). The tie for eighth also match his career-best finish after he tied for eighth at the Loyola Intercollegiate last year, and is his second career top 10 finish.
Senior Andrew Havill finished tie for 14th after a final round 76 gave him a score of 224 (+11). It's his third top 20 finish through four tournaments this season and he has finished inside the top 30 in all four events so far.
Ochsenreiter earned the best finish of his young career with a tie for 16th after carding a 74 in the final round, the best score on the team in the final round. His score of 226 (+13) matches his best tournament score in relation to par on the year and is his first career top 20 finish.
Jake Brown regained a little bit of his form in Monday's final round, posting a 75 to move up the leaderboard and tie for 33rd with a total score of 232 (+19). Also posting a 75 in the final round was senior Keegan Vea, who ended up tied for 48th individually with an overall score of 236 (+23).
Senior Will Seger, playing in his first tournament of the year, competed as an individual used a final round 76 to finish in a tie for 38th with a total score of 233 while sophomore Trevor Ranton, also competing as an individual, was five shots behind him with a score of 238 and a tie for 55th.
