Hoosiers Shoot Third-Lowest Round in School History on Day One of Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Indiana Women's Golf team combined the third-lowest round in school history on day one of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Golf Course Sunday afternoon.
IU shot a 283 in the opening 18 holes, which ties the third lowest round in school history. In program history, the Hoosiers have now posted three of its four lowest rounds at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. They posted a 280 during play last season and set a school record of 277 at the event in 2008.
Overall, IU sits in a tie for sixth place in the tournament standings (-5) with Baylor (273), Idaho (278) and host UNLV and San Diego State (280) leading the field. The overall score of 283 (-5) for the Hoosiers is also the lowest of the season by 13 strokes, besting their 296 at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic to start the season.
Senior Ana Sanjuan put herself at the top of the IU leaderboard with her 3-under par (69) finish on day one. It marks the third-lowest round of her career and sets her in a tie for 11th place overall. Freshman Elisa Pierre continued to post new lows as she finished behind Sanjuan at 2-under par (70) for the lowest round of her young career and tied for 15th.
Senior Theresa-Ann Jedra set a new career best with her even par (72) performance in the opening round, shooting 1-under her previous low of 73 set at the Big Ten Championships last season. She sits in a tie for 36th place along with teammate junior Alix Kong who also shot a 72.
Rounding out the Hoosiers' lineup was sophomore Erin Harper, who makes her return to play for the first time since September 12-13, as she shot 1-over par (73) and is tied for 48th overall.
Birdies were abundant at the start of the round, with the Hoosiers compiling nine in the first nine holes of play. They didn't let up in the final nine as it added eight more for a total of 17 on the day. Sanjuan, Pierre, Kong and Harper all had four apiece for the round.
Round two of tournament begins at 11 a.m. ET with a shotgun start.
