Millar, Receveur Earn Big Ten Athlete of the Week Honors
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Coming off of a record-breaking Hoosier Open, IU now has two athletes named as the Big Ten athletes of the week for track and field.
Sophomore Katherine Receveur carried a tremendous amount of momentum from cross country season into the opening meet of the indoor track season. Receveur won the 5,000m run with a school record time of 15:50.30. The record was previously held by NCAA Champion and five-time All-American Michelle Dekkers. The record stood for 20 years. Katherine earns her first Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week.
Receveur earned All-Big Ten honors after finished as the individual runner-up in the women's race. She went on to earn All-Region honors in the highly competitive Great Lakes Regional. Katherine capped off her sophomore campaign with an 11th place finish at the NCAA Championships, earning All-America status.
Sophomore Bryce Millar ran the eighth best 5,000m time in school history, a list that is loaded with former NCAA Champions and Olympic runners. Millar's time was 13:59.04 and was good for third at the Hoosier Open. Millar also earned his first Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week.
Millar, a redshirt freshman, also had a great cross country season. He consistently ran in the top five for the Big Ten's third place Hoosier team. Millar also helped the team finish tied for second in the Great Lakes Regional.
IU will be back in action following the New Year, squaring off against Tennessee on the 7th of January.
