#IUTF to Host Hoosier Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The indoor track and field season is back, and IU will host the first meet of the season, the Hoosier Open on Friday. The meet is tentatively scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
Under the direction of head coach Ron Helmer, in his 10th season, Indiana is coming off of a record breaking season. With several key components returning to the team this season, there is reason for optimism for IU track and field fans.
NCAA qualifier Nakel McClinton returns for her senior campaign, fresh off of a dominant junior season. McClinton shattered the school record in the weight throw on her way to a third place finish at the Big Ten Championships.
Big Ten champion Daniel Kuhn will be more determined than ever to leave his mark this season. Kuhn, crowned Big Ten champ in the 600m dash, just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships in his best event, the 800m run. Daniel currently holds the school record for the indoor 600m and the 800m.
Danielle Quinn has established herself as one of the top triple jumpers in the conference. Her best effort of 12.45m, nearly 41 feet, places her as one of the top five performers in school history. In the men's triple jump, Eric Bethea looks to build off of his sensational end to his freshman season. Eric claimed a podium spot with a third place finish in the event at the Big Ten Championships.
Willie Morrison was tremendous down the stretch throughout the outdoor season, earning All-America accolades in the shot put as a freshman. Morrison holds a lifetime best throw of 18.63m, 61-feet-1.5-inches, the fourth best throw in school history.
Brenna Calder was electric last season in the mile run. If not for a disastrous fall in the Big Ten finals she would have been a point scorer in one of the conference's toughest events. She will look to capitalize on a big cross country season.
Treyton Harris figures to play an integral role with this year's team, both as a jumper and a sprinter. As a freshman, Harris scored a couple of points in the conference meet with a seventh place finish in the long jump. Paul Galas scored a seventh place finish in the high jump at the Big Ten Championships a season ago. This season he will look to clear seven-feet in the event.
Kendell Wiles, much like Kuhn, is a dynamic middle distance runner. She is a Big Ten point scorer in the 600m dash, as well as the second leg of the women's 4x400m relay squad. She joined Riley Egbula, Taylor Williams and Sydney Anderson to claim eighth in the conference last season. All four runners will be back this year.
The Hoosier Open is notorious for great 5,000m times, as it is less than a month from the end of the cross country season. IU will figure to be right near the top in what will shape up to be a highly competitive field. Four Hoosiers: Katherine Receveur, Jason Crist, Matt Schwartzer and Ben Veatch were selected to the All-Big Ten team for cross country at the end of October.
