
School Record Relay Highlights Prelim Session for IU at NCAA Championships

ATLANTA – The No. 8-ranked Indiana University men's swimming and diving team had a great final prelim session on Saturday morning at the 2016 NCAA Championships at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.
In total, Indiana qualified for two Championship Finals and four Consolation Finals on Saturday night. The Hoosiers enter the final night of the NCAA's in 11th place.
400 Freestyle Relay
Indiana had an outstanding swim in the 400 freestyle relay, setting the school record with a time of 2:50.10 to qualify fourth overall and earn a spot in the Championship Final.
Anze Tavcar led off with a great split for the Hoosiers, recording the fifth-fastest 100 free in school history with a mark of 42.59.
200 Breaststroke
Tanner Kurz had a great swim for the Hoosiers in the 200 breaststroke, qualifying eighth overall to earn a spot in the Championship Final on Saturday night with a time of 1:54.29.
Cody Taylor just missed making the Championship Final, qualifying ninth to earn the top seed in the Consolation Final with a mark of 1:54.39. Ian Finnerty placed 40th overall with a time of 1:59.06.
100 Freestyle
In the 100 freestyle, both Blake Pieroni and Anze Tavcar qualified for Saturday night's Consolation Final. Pieroni qualified 13th overall with a time of 42.58, while Tavcar earned his spot with a mark of 42.67.
Pieroni's time is tied for the third-fastest time in IU history, while Tavcar's mark is the fifth-fastest at Indiana. Ali Khalafalla finished 21st overall with a time of 43.03.
200 Butterfly
Vini Lanza continued his strong NCAA Championships, qualifying 11th overall to earn a spot in the Consolation Final. Lanza's time of 1:42.51 is the second-fastest time in school history.
Max Irwin finished 31st overall with a time of 1:44.50.
200 Backstroke
In the 200 backstroke, Bob Glover finished 27th overall with a time of 1:41.83.
The 2016 NCAA Championships conclude on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. ET for the Hoosiers with the finals of the 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay.
