BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the first time since taking a three-game set against Penn State in 1997, Indiana Softball swept its Big Ten-opening series by picking up a 10-5 victory against Iowa on Sunday afternoon.

The Hoosiers (20-10, 3-0 Big Ten) defeated the Hawkeyes (8-19, 0-3 Big Ten) on Friday, 5-3, and on Saturday, 9-3. Meanwhile, Sunday's win marks the fourth straight Indiana victory.

Much like the two previous wins, Indiana had to battle back from an early deficit as IU trailed 3-0 in the second inning on a three-run homer by Iowa's Kaitlyn Mullarkey.

Indiana began chipping away in the third frame as a leadoff double by freshman Sarah Galovich put the Hoosiers in scoring position. Galovich finished the day with a 3-for-3 outing at the plate, including a pair of doubles, and brought in two runs, marking the first multi-hit and multi-RBI game of her career. Sophomore Rebecca Blitz then brought in Galovich on an RBI groundout to make it 3-1.

The Hoosiers jumped ahead in the fourth inning as an RBI double by senior Shannon Cawley, an RBI foul out by sophomore Kennedy Cribbs and single by Blitz plated a trio of runs to give Indiana a 4-3 lead.

However, the Hawkeyes quickly tied the game up on a two-out solo homer by Mallory Kilian in the next inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Hoosiers put up four runs, all of which came with two outs, to take the lead for good. Galovich's second double of the game plated sophomore Taylor Uden and senior Kassi Farmer. Junior Erin Lehman then hit a bases-loaded single off the glove of the diving Iowa shortstop to bring in sophomore Rachel O'Malley and Galovich.

Iowa got one back in the sixth as an RBI single made it 8-5 before the Hoosier defense connected on a huge double play to prevent the Hawkeyes from getting any closer.

Indiana's final two runs of the game came via a Farmer RBI double and a single by O'Malley to push the lead to 10-5.

Up next, the Hoosiers continue Big Ten play with a home tilt against currently No. 2-ranked Michigan. The first game of the three-game series is set for Friday at 6 p.m.
