BLOOMINGTON, Indiana - Indiana University men's basketball player Troy Williams will put his name in for this year's NBA Draft, but leaves open the possibility of returning for his final season of eligibility by not hiring an agent.
"After much thought and family discussion, I've decided to declare for this year's NBA Draft but will not hire an agent," said Williams, a 6-7 forward from Hampton, Virginia. "This gives me the opportunity to explore future possibilities, while keeping my options open. Coach Crean is always supportive and makes sure that you have the best information to help you make a decision like this and I value his input. I'm excited to go through this process."
Williams averaged 13.3 points and 5.8 rebounds and led the team with 39 steals in helping IU to a No. 9 ranking in the final USA Today Coaches Poll, a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the NCAA Tournament and an outright Big Ten Championship this past season. He became the eighth player recruited by Tom Crean at Indiana to eclipse the 1,000 point mark in his career and is 40th among all-time Hoosiers with 1,115 points. He also will earn his bachelor's degree (Rec Sports Management) in three years and will graduate next month.
