
Indiana’s Goss Qualifies for Rio Olympics with Team Canada

TORONTO – Indiana University sophomore swimmer Kennedy Goss qualified for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics on Thursday at the Canadian Olympic & Para-swimming Trials on Thursday nigh in Toronto.
Goss will represent Canada in the 800 freestyle relay after finishing fourth overall in the 200m freestyle final. The sophomore touched the wall in a LCM personal-best time of 1:58.26.
"Our team and staff are so very happy for Kennedy and the Goss family," Indiana head swimming coach Ray Looze said. "Making the Olympic swimming team for Canada is a true honor. The 800-meter free relay for the Canadian women in 2016 will be a medal caliber event for that nation. We look forward to watching Kennedy swim the 100 free and 200 back as her remaining events at the Olympic trials later this week."
Goss' father, Sandy, was a two-time Olympic silver medalist in the 400 medley relay at both the 1984 and 1988 Olympics.
By qualifying for this summer's Olympic Games in Rio, Goss becomes the 15th female Olympian in Indiana swimming and diving history. Overall, Goss is the 72nd Olympian (102nd time) for the Indiana swimming and diving program.
At Indiana, Goss is an eight-time All-American, earning five of those accolades at this year's NCAA Championships in Atlanta. The Toronto, Ontario native finished third in the 200 backstroke and eighth in the 200 freestyle. Goss was also named First-Team All-Big Ten at the conference championships.
As a freshman, Goss was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Big Ten Newcomer of the Year and First-Team All-Big Ten after winning the league titles in 200 and 500 freestyle.
At the 2015 NCAA Championships, Goss earned three All-American honors, placing fifth in the 200 free and 14th in the 500 free.
