
Kelzer, Hart and Dedelow Selected on Third Day of 2016 MLB Draft

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Three more Indiana Baseball players were selected in the MLB Draft on Saturday afternoon. Right-handed pitcher Jake Kelzer (18th round, pick 527 to the Philadelphia Phillies), left-handed pitcher Kyle Hart (19th round, pick 568 to the Boston Red Sox) and outfielder Craig Dedelow (34th round, pick 1,035 to the Pirates) each heard their name called, chalking the draft pick total to four Hoosiers in 2016.
Kelzer, Hart and Dedelow become the 86th, 87th and 88th all-time draft picks at IU. Indiana, which has seen 16 of its players taken in the first 15 rounds since 2009, has now had 18 players selected in the last four years. Kelzer was selected for the third time in his career, while Hart and Dedelow are both first-time selections.
Kelzer has made 64 career appearances at Indiana, including 11 starts, all of which came during the 2015 campaign. In 145.2 career innings, Kelzer has surrendered just 117 hits while striking out 149 and posting an ERA of 3.03. During the 2016 season, Kelzer served in the backend of the Hoosier bullpen, posting an ERA of 1.32 and a .171 opposing batting average. He also tallied four saves and a 3-2 record in relief. Kelzer was previously drafted by the Cubs in 2015 and the Yankees in 2014. Kelzer joins former Hoosier LHP Joey DeNato in the Phillies organization.
Indiana's Friday night starter in 2016, Hart made 59 career starts on the mound for the Hoosiers. He finished first in the Big Ten and tied for 16th nationally in victories (10), while also placing seventh in the conference innings pitched (98.1) and seventh in strikeouts (79). The Ohio native has 31 career wins, which ranks second all-time in school history, while his 338.2 career innings is also second and his 237 career strikeouts puts him fourth in the school annals. Hart ranks second in IU history with 17 career wins in Big Ten games. His 3.38 career ERA in conference action ranks ninth and his 127 strikeouts ranks second. A First Team All-Big Ten selection in 2016, Hart will be joining former IU teammate Sam Travis in the Red Sox organization.
Dedelow is coming off his third season with the Hoosiers. During the 2016 season, the Third Team All-Big Ten selection finished tied for 11th in doubles (16). In conference games only, he was tied for fourth in total bases (52), tied for fifth in home runs (4), tied for 10th in hits (32) and 11th in slugging percentage (.510). Dedelow is a career .303 hitter at Indiana with 31 doubles, six triples, 12 home runs and 81 RBI.
