BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana second baseman Tony Butler was recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Sunday, being named to the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team.
The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team is selected by the ABCA All-America committee. The team features the best defensive player in the country at each position. This is the first time ever that Indiana Baseball has had a Gold Glove winner in the 10 years the teams have been recognized at the collegiate ranks.
In addition to not making an error during the entire 2016 season, Butler has also never made an error in his entire career. Butler started 44 games at his position this season and appeared in 47 of Indiana's games before missing the last two weeks of the season due to injury. Butler had a total of 203 chances in 2016, including 126 assists and 77 putouts. He turned 36 double plays this year as well. In total, Butler has played in 56 career games at Indiana and Virginia (2014) and has yet to make an error.
Butler is the lone representative from the Big Ten to be named to the 2016 Gold Glove Team. The nine-player team for 2016 can be seen below.
