IU’s Khalafalla Places 23rd in 50 Freestyle at Rio Summer Olympics

RIO DE JANEIRO – Indiana University junior swimmer Ali Khalafalla placed 23rd overall in the men's 50 freestyle on Thursday at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
Khalafalla, swimming for Team Egypt, touched the wall in a IU school record time of 22.25 to finish second in his 50 freestyle heat. Khalafalla, a four-time All-America honoree for the Hoosiers last year, won silver in the 50 free at the Big Ten Championships and finished 11th in the event at the NCAA Championshionships.
