BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Friday the draws for the upcoming ITA Summer Nationals. The event will take place from Saturday, August 13 to Tuesday, August 16 across the Indiana University campus and the city of Bloomington.
The ITA Summer Circuit, which began in 1993, provides college tennis players, along with junior players and alumni, the opportunity to compete in organized events during the summer months. The summer circuit has included 51 tournaments across 24 states, starting in June and running through the end of July. This weekend, the players will converge in Bloomington for the national championship.
In total, 12 Indiana University athletes will make an appearance in the ITA Summer Nationals. In the women's tournament, rising sophomores Madison Appel and Caitlin Bernard will join a promising group of IU newcomers: Anna McCoy, Emma Love, Paulina Jahren, and transfer student Alicia Robinson.
Six athletes will represent Indiana on the men's side of the bracket as well. They include Antonio Cembellin, Stefan Lugonjic, Matt McCoy, Raheel Manji, Will Piekarsky, and Alfonso Salgado.
After an outstanding run through the summer circuit, Manji will enter the tournament as the second overall seed. Cembellin also received a national seed in the 9-16 seed range, and McCoy earned a top-24 seed.
