RIO DE JANEIRO – Indiana University sophomore diver Jessica Parratto placed 10th overall in the women's 10m platform dive at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics on Thursday.
Parratto placed 10th in the competition with a score of 334.60. The redshirt sophomore started with two great dives, posting scores of 81.00 and 79.20. On her fifth and final dive, Parratto scored a 76.80.
"Jessica did a great job today," IU head diving coach and Team USA head diving coach Drew Johansen said. "She made her first international final with a personal-best score on this stage. She split the Chinese divers in the semifinal and hung with them through the first two rounds of what was the best women's 10M final in Olympic history. We will be looking forward to the next four years going head-to-head with these divers."
In the morning semifinal, Parratto was outstanding, posting a score of 367.00 to qualify second overall for the final. Parratto was incredibly consistent, posting all her score over 63.00 points, including two over 74.00 points and one mark of 84.15.
Parratto is the second IU diver to make a Rio Olympic individual final, as fellow Hoosier Michael Hixon placed 10th in the 3m springboard after winning a silver medal in the 3m synchronized dive with partner Sam Dorman.
