Indiana Head Coach Amanda Janney
What are your team goals for the season?
"We're definitely focused on our Big Ten competition. I think after the success last season, knowing our opponents better and knowing what we can do with the core of our team coming back, we're really excited about starting our conference play. We want to get back into the Big Ten Tournament and make the postseason."
On playing No. 12 Louisville to start the season…
"It's a great first game for us. Any ACC opponent is going to be tough, and we're really happy to have such a talented opponent in our first game to test us out and see where we're at to start the season."
On offseason training…
"We feel good about preseason. We've had some ups and downs, but I think that knowing the leadership on our team and the success we had in the spring, we feel confident moving into our season."
On the development of the newcomers…
"The freshmen are doing excellent. They committed to being here for half of the summer, which is a big change for us. They've already contributed in many positive ways, and I think we're going to have at least two starting on Friday. It's going to be exciting to see them add something new and different to our team."
On Indiana's keys to success versus Louisville…
"We have to score, so I think our attacking production needs to be good. We need to take high percentage shots, execute our attack penalty corners. Coming from our scrimmage win at Ball State, we had some good highlights from our attacking and our defense showed well with a shutout."
On the Hoosiers' rivalry with Louisville…
"The 'Battle of the Border' has been a great tradition between Indiana and Louisville field hockey. We want to get that stick back from them. Every time we've played them since I've been here, it's been a very competitive battle. Louisville is a very experienced team and it gives us a taste of a top ACC opponent. That's the kind of team we would have to face in the postseason, so we're excited to get that immediate experience."
Senior Morgan Dye
On playing the Cardinals to start the season…
"They're definitely one of our hardest opponents every season. We're always really head-to-head with them, and we've lost some close games the past few years. I think it will be great competition and a good win for us if we can get the win on Friday."
On her hopes for her senior season…
"I'm trying to enjoy every moment and embrace everything that's happening. It's probably going to feel weird when I'm done so I'm trying to make the most of it last season."
On the Hoosiers' sophomore goalkeeper, Noëlle Rother…
"I have 100% confidence in Noëlle. Anytime there's a breakaway, I know she's going to save it. That's a huge help to the team, knowing if something breaks we have confidence in our goalie."
On the keys to success for Indiana this season…
"It's a matter of coming together as a team. We have a lot of freshmen this year that will get playing time, so it's going to be interesting to see how everyone meshes and comes together. I think if we can play together as a unit like we've been playing together for years, we'll be really successful."
Junior Maddie Latino
On her expectations for the season…
"I'm really excited. We've scrimmaged a lot throughout the preseason and the play has looked awesome. We gelled together really quickly, it didn't take us a lot of time to transition and figure out who's playing where. I'm excited to see what we can bring on Friday and throughout the rest of the season."
On being from Louisville, playing against Louisville…
"It's just another opponent to me. We play them every year, including in the spring season. It's a matter of going out and playing like we would play a Big Ten team."
