Hoosiers Conclude Play at IU Winter Invitational
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team wrapped up competition for the three-day IU Winter Invitational on Monday at the IU Tennis Center.
The Hoosiers went 4-4 overall in the two rounds of doubles on Monday. After dropping their first double match of the tournament in the first session, senior Kim Schmider and sophomore Madison Appel came back for a dominant 6-1 victory in their final doubles match. The duo went 5-1 in doubles play for the tournament.
Schmider had a productive tournament in singles as well as the senior went 2-0 with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Autumn Crossnoe of Abilene Christian on Saturday and a 6-4, 6-3 win over Chloe Hule of Colorado on Sunday.
Graduate student Alicia Robinson and freshman Pauline Jahren each went 2-0 in singles for the tournament as well.
"I thought we achieved our goal of getting back into a competitive mode," IU head coach Ramiro Azcui said. "I liked the energy we had and although there are still things we are working on I think this was a good opening weekend for us. We are looking forward to starting dual match play next week."
Up next the Hoosiers start dual match play on Saturday Jan. 21 as they host Western Michigan at 11:00 a.m. and Butler at 4:00 p.m.
