Hoosiers Drop Match to Iowa, 3-1

Bloomington, Ind. – Freshman Kamryn Malloy tallied her first career double-double and sophomore Deyshia Lofton hit .643, but the Indiana volleyball team fell against Iowa in four sets (24-26, 19-25, 25-17, 14-25) on Wednesday at University Gym.
Malloy led the Hoosiers in kills for the third straight match with 14 and added a season-high 10 digs for the double-double. Lofton recorded 10 kills on 14 swings and added five blocks.
Sophomore Victoria Brisack, who was honored before the match for reaching 1,000 career assists tallied her third straight double-double with 41 assists and 12 digs.
Junior Elizabeth Asdell finished with nine kills and sophomore middle blocker Hayden Huybers had eight kills.
In the first set Iowa got out to a 9-5 lead, but the Hoosiers came back to tie it 11-11 on an Iowa attack error. The Hoosiers took control and built a 16-13 lead on a kill by Huybers. The Hawkeyes scored seven of the next 11 points to put it tied 20-20. A kill from Lofton and an Iowa attack error but IU up 22-20, but two Indiana errors brought the score back to even at 22-22.
The match would be knotted again at 24-24 and Iowa closed it out with a kill and an ace to take it, 26-24.
The Hoosiers (11-8, 0-7) fell behind early in the second set, 13-4, but clawed back to within five at 20-15. Iowa would win the set, 25-19 and go up 2-0 in the match.
The third set the Hoosiers came alive and hit .219 with 12 kills. Asdell tallied five kills on nine swings in the set and the Hoosiers took it, 25-17.
Indiana was unable to carry over the momentum from the third set, as Iowa got out to a 10-5 lead in set four. Iowa closed the match with a 10-3 run to win the set and the match.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to Wisconsin for a match on Friday Oct. 13 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
