Game Notes: Indiana vs. Charleston Southern

Setting The Scene
• Indiana (2-2, 0-2 B1G East) opens a two-game homestand against Charleston Southern (2-2, 0-0 Big South) on Saturday, Oct. 7, at Memorial Stadium (52,929; FieldTurf).
• Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. EDT and BTN will broadcast the game.
• The Hoosiers added this game to the schedule in place of the Sept. 16 Florida International contest, which was canceled due to issues arising from Hurricane Irma.
• IU has won 10 of its last 11 non-conference games, including both games this season.
• Saturday is the first meeting between the two programs and the first for Indiana against a Big South opponent.
The Coaches
• Tom Allen made his debut as Indiana head coach at the 2016 Foster Farms Bowl. He was named IU's 29th head coach on Dec. 1, 2016. The New Castle, Ind., native joined the Hoosiers as associate head coach/defense on Jan. 15, 2016. A 2016 Broyles Award nominee, Allen engineered one of the top defensive turnarounds in the country, as Indiana improved substantially in every major statistical category. (full bio on page 16)
• Mark Tucker is in his first season as Charleston Southern head coach. Tucker was elevated to head coach after serving as quarterbacks coach during the most successful four-year run in program history.

• Indiana limited No. 4 Penn State to 39 rushing yards (1.1 average), the fewest yards allowed since Aug. 30, 2014, vs. Indiana State (30) and the fewest allowed against a Big Ten team since Nov. 30, 2013, vs. Purdue (31).
• IU held Saquon Barkley to 114 yards (58-2016, 56-2017) over the last two seasons on 53 carries (2.2 average).
• The Hoosiers recorded five sacks and 11 tackles for loss in Saturday's game.
• Tegray Scales set a new career-high with three sacks at PSU, which is tied for fifth-most in school history. It marked the senior linebacker's fourth career multi-sack game and 12th career multi-TFL game.
• He added a team-high 11 tackles, good for his team-leading 12th career double-digit game.
• Since the start of the 2016 season, Scales owns 11, 10-plus tackle games, which shares second nationally. He is tied for the top spot nationally with 117 solos, is second with 29.0 TFLs and is 11th with 163 total stops.
• Indiana is fifth nationally averaging 6.3 three-and-outs per game.
• Ian Thomas hauled in a career-high 91 yards and matched his career-high with five receptions at Penn State.
• The senior tight end's 254 yards receiving are first among tight ends in the Big Ten (5th nationally), while his three touchdowns are tied for second (T-3rd nationally).
