Hoosiers Fall in Five Sets at Northwestern

Evanston, Ill. – Hayden Huybers tallied 11 kills and Deyshia Lofton added eight blocks, but the Indiana volleyball team came up short on the road at Northwestern in five sets (21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 32-34, 8-15).
Victoria Brisack notched a double-double for the Hoosiers with 45 assists and 11 digs. Samantha Fogg added 12 digs and used aggressive serving to record four aces in the match. The Hoosiers tallied 10 aces for the match.
Freshman Kamryn Malloy came into the match in the third set and posted 14 kills and hit .370 for the match.
In the first set the Hoosiers (11-6, 0-5) trailed 17-9, but came back to within two at 22-20. Northwestern put it away, 25-21 to take the 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set with the score tied 22-22, Brisack used an ace and a kill to put the Hoosiers up 24-22 and they won the set, 25-22. The Hoosier had their best hitting percentage of the match in the second set at .355.
In the third set Indiana limited Northwestern to nine kills and Huybers asserted herself on the offensive side as she scored the final point on a kill to give the Hoosiers a 2-1 lead in the match.
The fourth set was a marathon with 16 ties and nine lead changes. The Hoosiers fought off many set points, but Northwestern won the set, 34-32 to force a fifth set.
The Wildcats scored the first four points of the fifth set and controlled it as they captured the set and match victory. Northwestern hit .562 in the fifth set with 10 kills and one error.
Up next the Hoosiers will take on Illinois in Champaign, Ill., tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. ET
