Doyle Takes Home Co-Medalist Honors After Final Round 65

EVANSTON, Illinois – Indiana senior Brendon Doyle used a final round 65, a new career best, to claim co-medalist honors at the Windon Memorial Classic on Monday at the Evanston Golf Club. As a team, the Hoosiers finished the tournament at 1-under par, which was good for third place.

The last time an IU golfer took home medalist honors was Jake Brown on April 3, 2016 at the Hoosier Invitational. Doyle's 65 is also the lowest single round score by a Hoosier since Brown carded a 62 on March 1, 2016 at the Loyola Intercollegiate.

The third-place team finish is also the best result for IU since they finished second at the Hoosier Invitational on April 2, 2017. In addition to Doyle, the Hoosiers had four players finish T20 or better.

Doyle opened his round with three straight pars before going birdie-bogey-birdie to get to 1-under par through six holes. After two more pars, he rattled off three birdies in a row to move to 4-under par. His final birdie of the day came on his 14th hole and he would follow that with four pars to post 65. His overall score of 206 is also a career best and tied him with Patrick Flavin from Miami (Ohio) for medalist honors at the tournament.

Redshirt junior Jake Brown got his final round off to a fast start with four birdies and seven pars in his first 11 holes. However, he got a series unfortunate breaks down over the final seven holes to finish with a score of 72. His overall score was 209 to put him in a tie for eighth place, his fifth career top 10 finish. Brown finished the tournament with 11 birdies, which ranked second among the 84 participants.

Jack Sparrow, another redshirt junior, made his season debut by finishing tied for 13th with a score of 211 (+1), his fourth career top 20 finish and best since at T12 finish at the Hoosier Invitational in April 2017.

Sophomore Brock Ochsenreiter was the fourth IU player to finish in the top 20 after posting an even par round of 70 on Monday. He had three birdies on his front nine and three bogeys on his back nine. His overall score of 213 was 3-over par and tied him for 20th and his third career top 20 finish.

Freshman Ethan Shepherd was never able to get on a roll in the tournament and finish tied for 62nd with a score of 223 after a 74 in his final round.

Evan Yakubov, a freshman, was playing as in individual and also tied for 62nd with a score 213 overall following his 73 in the final round.

Up next, Indiana will host the Crooked Stick Invitational on Oct. 16-17 at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana. The 12-team field will play 36 holes on Oct. 16 followed by 18 holes on Oct. 17. Live scoring will be available on GolfStat.com.
