Indiana’s senior forward is one of the Hoosiers’ all-time scorers
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday their selections for the 2017 Field Hockey postseason honors, including their All-Big Ten teams and the Big Ten's Player of the year award. Indiana senior forward Maddie Latino received placement on the All-Big Ten Second Team, earning the first All-Conference season honors of her career.
Latino adds this award to three other on-field plaudits from the Big Ten over her career. The Louisville, Kentucky native earned two Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week awards—once as a sophomore in 2015 and once this season after scoring a hat trick to beat Miami—and an All-Big Ten Tournament team selection at the end of the 2015 season.
A four-year starter on Indiana's frontline and midfield, Latino goes down as one of the greatest scoring threats to wear the Cream & Crimson. Latino's goal against the Buckeyes in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament was her 10th of the season, becoming just the fourth Hoosier with double-digit scoring figures in more than one season (Audra Heilman – 2013, 2014; Morgan Fleetwood – 2009, 2011, 2012; Lydia Schrott – 2005, 2006) after scoring 10 times in 2015.
Latino ends her career with top-five positions on three of the Hoosiers' all-time scoring leaderboards with 24 goals (5th – IU history), 8 game-winning goals (t-3rd – IU history), and 64 points (5th – IU history). She also becomes the fifth Hoosier to lead the team in goals and points over two seasons in her career.
Latino earned the Hoosiers' 37th selection to the All-Big Ten team in program history, the seventh since head coach Amanda Janney's first season in 2015.
On NCAA Championship weekend, Latino will culminate her career in unique fashion as she plays the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game in her hometown. The game is set to begin 7:00 p.m. ET on Friday, November 17 at Louisville's Trager Stadium.
