Indiana’s Pieroni, King Earn Weekly Big Ten Honors

CHICAGO – Indiana University swimmers Blake Pieroni and Lilly King each earned weekly Big Ten honors on Wednesday, the conference office announced.
Pieroni was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week, while King was named the Women's Swimmer of the Week. Pieroni was also named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com.
For the No. 1-ranked Hoosiers men's team, Pieroni won all three of his individual events, helping the team win dual meets against No. 15 Tennessee and Kentucky. The Valparaiso, Ind. native won the 50 freestyle (19.65), 100 freestyle (43.07) and 200 freestyle (1:36.75) with NCAA B cut times. His marks in the 50 and 100 free are both the third-best times in the nation this year.
Pieroni was also a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay for the Hoosiers, who won with a time of 2:55.04. Pieroni and the Hoosier men have won 17-straight dual meets.
King continued her dominance in the breaststroke for the No. 7-ranked Indiana women's team, helping them beat No. 15 Kentucky last week. King won the 100 breast in a time of 59.44 and the 200 breast with a mark of 2:10.13. The Evansville, Ind. native's time in the 100 is the best in the country, while her mark in the 200 is the sixth-best.
King also helped the Hoosiers win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.20. She also took third in the 200 IM with a mark of 2:02.52.
Indiana's Vini Lanza also earned honors this week, as he was named CollegeSwimming.com's National DI Swimmer of the Week. Lanza placed first in the 100 butterfly (46.90), 200 butterfly (1:44.18) and the 200 IM (1:47.18) against No. 15 Tennessee and Kentucky with NCAA B cuts.
The No. 1/7 Indiana Hoosiers men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in action on Thursday, Nov. 9 when IU hosts Cincinnati and No. 14/10 Notre Dame in a double-dual meet in Bloomington, Ind. at the Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center.
