Katherine Receveur Wins Great Lakes Women’s Title; Women Finish Fifth, Men Finish Sixth

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Redshirt junior Katherine Receveur became the first Hoosier in 30 years to win the NCAA Great Lakes Regional individual title on Friday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
Receveur's win gives IU its first Great Lakes Region title since Kim Betz in 1987. The Louisville, Ky. native finished with the time of 20:34.9 and earned her a spot at NCAA Championships in her hometown next weekend.
The women's team finished fifth overall in their 6K race with a total of 148 points. Big Ten powerhouse Michigan won the team title with a total of 71 points. IU finished behind Michigan State (87 points), Wisconsin (93 points) and Eastern Michigan (146 points).
The Hoosiers had a total of three top-25 finishers with junior Maggie Allen who crossed second for IU in 18th overall with the time of 20:59.5. Redshirt junior Brenna Calder finished 25th overall with the time of 21:08.5. The women's team was rounded out by junior Haley Harris, sophomore Grace Walther, redshirt sophomore Kelsey Harris and redshirt freshman Stacy Morozov.
The men's team finished sixth overall in their 10K race with a total of 178 points. Michigan State won the team title with a total of 68 points. IU finished behind Michigan (79 points), Wisconsin (84 points), Eastern Michigan (113 points) and Purdue (136 points).
The men's team had two top-25 finishers, sophomore Ben Veatch who finished fourth overall with the time of 31:01.3. HIs top four finish also qualified him for NCAA Championships next weekend while redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau was the second IU runner to cross in 16th overall with the time of 31:23.9.
Redshirt junior Joe Murphy, redshirt sophomore Bryce Millar, redshirt junior Kyle Burks, redshirt freshman Cameron Clements and redshirt freshman Teddy Browning rounded out the IU field.
Receveur and Veatch will be back in action on Saturday, November 18 in Louisville, Ky. for the NCAA Championships. The women's 6K race will begin at 10:45 a.m. EST and the men's 10K race will begin at 11:45 a.m. EST.
The top two teams, Michigan and Michigan State (women) and Michigan State and Michigan (men) and the top four individuals who are not on a qualifying team, Katherine Receveur (Indiana), Sarah Disanza (Wisconsin), Jordann McDermitt (Eastern Michigan) and Hanne Christensen (Western Michigan) for the women and Oliver Hoare (Wisconsin), Ben Veatch (Indiana), Joe Hardy (Wisconsin) and Jaret Carpenter (Purdue) for the men will advance to the NCAA Championships. Additional teams and individual participants will be chosen through an at-large selection process. The additional teams and individuals will be announced by the NCAA on Saturday, November 11.
