Indiana Head Coach Archie Miller
On the improved play in the first half:
"Yeah, we're getting better and I think the one positive was, if you watched the game in the first half, I thought that Indiana played hard. And, I think that was a big quest as we came up here as a group, especially playing against a veteran team. A good team, that has some serious firepower. I thought we really competed. I thought a lot of guys stepped in and played really hard and we felt good about our effort level at half. And I think coming out of halftime, you saw a team that really played to their strengths, in Seton Hall. And then you saw a team, in us, that squandered possessions, in terms of turning the ball over. We just were very careless to start the second half and they were very deliberate in what they wanted to do, which is really pound the ball inside.
"I thought Delgado was tough for us in the second half. You know Rodriguez is a really tough matchup for us, just in general, because of his size and I think he showed a little bit about their veteran, hard, earned team that came out of halftime and didn't lose their composure with us. We're going to keep getting better. You know, because we're not going away. And I think the big thing is we have a lot of guys with inexperience, some chemistry things we're working on, but we have to keep getting better. The big thing is we have another one coming Sunday against South Florida, and that's what we'll be ready for."
On the performance of Aljami Durham and Justin Smith, who were both in the starting lineup:
"I mean, if you told me that Justin Smith and Al would be able to play 31 minutes or 29 minutes and both sort of hang tough against that type of team on the road, that's a really, really good sign for those two guys. It really is. And, Devonte and Juwan didn't do anything since the end of our last game in terms of any competition 5-on-5 or anything, so we just felt the guys that got all of the reps in practice should get a chance to get the start. And, I knew Juwan and Devonte after talking to them were ready to play, and I think you saw Devonte really carried us for a little bit and Juwan had some good moments as well."
On critical turnovers in the second half being the difference:
"It was devastating. It's like, when you're talking to the guys on the team they know, but it's a careless approach because it's not forced. You know, two or three or even four of those in the first seven minutes of the second half were in transition when we had numbers or got a rebound or stop. We threw it in the seats and just some carelessness to be honest with you. Over the course of time, as a team, we have to get better at that. But guys have to understand that taking care of the ball is the most important thing. You know, when you look at your senior backcourt and they have 7 of your 18, that's something they have to take more pride in. And we have to do a better job as a staff of really making them aware of, at all costs, tuck it under your chin. Don't throw it in the seats. You know what I mean. Because from a percentage standpoint, when we did get a decent look or we got a shot, I thought we got a pretty good look and the ball went in the basket. But, too many uncharacteristic turnovers that really, to be honest with you, crippled us. But, give them credit, as well, on the offensive end. We really didn't have an answer to be able to stymie anything they were doing, just in terms of the physicalness of the approach. But, this is a good game for us because you're playing against probably a tournament team and you get a chance to see what you have to do to get better. And I'm anxious to watch the film and I'm anxious to get to Sunday night when we play South Florida."
