Senior guard Tyra Buss's layup with three seconds left help give Indiana a 73-71 win over Western Kentucky at home on Friday night. Buss led IU with 22 points while three others scored in double figures in a back-and-forth battled that avenged a previous lost at Western Kentucky last season.
NEW GAME, SAME CAHILL
It was another double-double for senior forward Amanda Cahill against the Lady Toppers as she scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. She has started off the season with three-straight double-doubles and has moved her career total to 32, tied for fourth all-time with Whitney Thomas (2006-09).
KYM CRASHES
Junior forward Kym Royster has made her presence know on the boards in the first three games this season. She has picked up nearly as many offensive boards (13) as defensive (14) while averaging 9.0 rebounds per game. The Newark, Ohio native is also averaging 8.7 points per contest including a 17 point effort on Friday night against Western Kentucky.
FRESHMEN CONTRIBUTORS
With two newcomers in the lineup, Indiana's freshmen have stepped up in a big way early on this season. Freshman guards Bendu Yeaney (8.7 ppg.) and Jaelynn Penn (7.7 ppg., 8.0 rpg.) are both making appearances in the starting lineup. The duo along with freshman guard Keyanna Warthen, all three have combined for six double figure scoring games.
NON-CON FOES AT HOME
With Friday's win over Western Kentucky, the Hoosiers have won their last 16 non-conference home games, and haven't dropped an out-of-conference regular season game in Bloomington since November 30, 2014.
ON PACE TO BREAK RECORDS
Entering her senior season, Buss is set to break records in a variety of categories. Moving to seventh place all-time on Saturday, Buss is now 243 points away from tying the school record in points scored. She now ranks second all-time in assists (420) and is also on pace to break records in steals, free throws made and free throws attempted. The WBCA Honorable Mention All-American is a two-time All-Big Ten First Team selection and was a nominee for the Wade Trophy and was a Naismith Trophy Preseason Top 50 as a junior.
CAHILL MAKES HER MARK
Senior Amanda Cahill will also move her way up in the IU record books this season, already making her mark in points scored and rebounds. She's just the fifth-ever player to record over 1,300 points and 800 rebounds as she ranks sixth all-time with 855 rebounds and 14th in scoring with 1,362 points.
