Eight Hoosiers Earn All-Big Ten Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Eight members of the No. 1-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team earned All-Big Ten honors on Friday, the conference office announced. The eight honorees are the most for the Hoosiers since 2012 and were the most of any Big Ten school this season.
Grant Lillard headlines the group, as the senior was unanimously selected as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Big Ten. Mason Toye was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, as well as First-Team All-Big Ten and was a unanimous selection to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
Joining Lillard and Toye on the All-Big Ten First-Team were both Andrew Gutman and Francesco Moore. Griffin Dorsey, Timmy Mehl and Trey Muse were all named Second-Team All-Big Ten. Jack Griffith was named the Hoosiers' Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Along with Toye, both Dorsey and Muse were also picked for the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. The three All-Freshman Team selections matches a program-best set in 2003, 2006 and 2010.
"It's great to have eight of our players receiving all-conference honors," IU head coach Todd Yeagley said. "They have all had very good years and been instrumental in helping us have an excellent regular season. It's certainly a reflection upon all the good work put in by our entire team. All of our recipients are very deserving of these distinguished honors."
Lillard earned his third-straight First-Team All-Big Ten honor this season after helping the Indiana defense lead the country and Big Ten in shutouts (13) and goals allowed (4). The Hinsdale, Ill. native has started all 17 matches for the Hoosiers at center back, scoring one goal with two assists.
A three-time All-Region honoree, the senior earned All-America accolades last season for the Hoosiers. Lillard was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2014. For his career, Lillard has started all 78 matches in which he has appeared, totaling 13 goals and nine assists.
Toye has made an immediate impact for the Hoosiers in his first season in Bloomington, leading the Big Ten with nine goals on the season to earn first-team honors. The South Orange, N.J. product is second in the league in points with 19 and has netted five game-winning goals on the year.
After garnering second-team honors his first two seasons at IU, Gutman earned First-Team All-Big Ten accolades this season. The Hinsdale, Ill. native has been a crucial member of the team's backline, starting all 17 matches at left back. Gutman is second on the team this season with five goals on the year to go with a pair of assists.
A two-time All-Region honoree, Gutman was also named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2015.
A 2015 Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection, Moore earned first-team recognition for the first time in his career. A stalwart in the Hoosiers' lineup, Moore has played a critical role in the success of the defense this season. Offensively, the Highland Park, Ill. product has totaled one goal and two assists on the year.
After a breakout season in 2017, Mehl earned the first Big Ten honors of his career as he was named to the all-conference second-team. Playing alongside Lillard at center back, Mehl has been a big piece to the Hoosier defense. Along with his defensive prowess, Mehl, from Manhattan Beach, Calif., has scored three goals this season.
Also earning Second-Team All-Big Ten honors for Indiana was Dorsey, who has proven to be one of the more dynamic players in the conference in his first season in Bloomington. The Evergreen, Colo. native has scored three goals and notched a team-best five assists this season. Dorsey was also a unanimous selection to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
After starting all 17 matches in goal for the Hoosiers, Muse was named Second-Team All-Big Ten, as well as to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Muse, from Louisville, Ky., has been a revelation as IU's goalkeeper, leading the nation in shutouts (13), goals-against average (0.220) and save percentage (0.918).
Muse, along with the Hoosier defense, posted a consecutive-scoreless minutes streak of 966:28 minutes – the fourth-longest streak in NCAA history.
The No. 1-ranked Indiana Hoosiers will host the Penn State Nittany Lions on Sunday, Nov. 5 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. The match will be broadcast live nationally on the Big Ten Network, with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.
