BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Basketball senior guard Tyra Buss has been named to national awards watch lists for the Wade Trophy and Women's Citizen Naismith Trophy on Wednesday.
The Mt. Carmel, Ill. native is one of 25 candidates on the Wade Watch while one of 50 recognized by the Citizens Naismith Trophy watch list. In the first six games of her senior season, Buss leads Indiana and third in the Big Ten in scoring with 22.7 points per game while averaging a team-high 6.7 assists per contest and 2.5 steals per game. She has scored in double figures in all six games while shooting 46.5 percent from the floor and posted a season-high 28 points and dished out a career-high 11 assists in the season opener against Arkansas State.
She was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week honor roll after her performance against the Red Wolves and has two double-doubles to her name this season. Buss, a WBCA All-American honorable mention and First Team All-Big Ten selection a season ago was also named to both awards watch lists last season.
Buss and the Hoosiers are back in action on Thursday when they host No. 4/5 Louisville in Big Ten/ACC Challenge action. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. ET inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and will be live on Big Ten Network.
About the Wade Trophy
The Wade Trophy — now in its 41st year — is the oldest and most prestigious national player of the year award in college women's basketball. It is named in honor of the late, legendary Delta State University head coach Lily Margaret Wade, who won three consecutive national championships with the Lady Statesmen.
The "Wade Watch" list of candidates for The Wade Trophy is composed of 25 players selected by the WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Selection Committee. The committee will review the list in January to determine if additional players will be added based on their play during the first half of the 2017-18 season. The WBCA will announce the four finalists for the honor in mid-March. The winner of the 2018 Wade Trophy will be announced during ESPN2's telecast of the 2018 NCAA® Women's Final Four® national semifinal games on March 30.
