
Program-Best Four Hoosiers Named CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 Second Team

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer placed four on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 Second Team with junior Caroline Dreher, sophomore Sydney Kilgore, senior Kayla Smith and junior Maya Piper earning the accolade.
It marks the most selections in a single season for the Hoosiers in program history and the most for any Big Ten program this season.
The recognition, which is voted on by sports information directors across the country, honors student-athletes for their combined performances both athletically and in the classroom.
Dreher, who currently serves as the team's academic captain and earned Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors last year, is an accounting and finance double major. The defender and Westlake, Ohio native played in all 19 games this season, making 16 starts. She tallied an assist at Michigan on Sept. 17.
Kilgore is majoring in Community Health and played in every game of the 2017 season as a forward. The Cincinnati, Ohio native collected a pair of assists, including on Mykayla Brown's equalizer against Nebraska on Oct. 15 and on Annelie Leitner's score at Ohio State on Oct. 24.
A two-time team captain, Smith is majoring in Human Biology and will graduate in May. Smith has also served as the team's academic captain and has twice been named Academic All-Big Ten and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. The midfielder has played in all 77 games in her career with 76 starts, tied for sixth-most in program history. Smith posted three assists this year - at North Texas on Sept. 10, at Minnesota on Oct. 5 and against Iowa on Oct. 12.
Piper led the Hoosiers in scoring this season as she netted a career-best seven goals and added two assists. Her seven goals is tied for eighth-most in the Big Ten and included the gamewinner at No. 23 SMU on Sept. 8. The Midland, Mich. native and Media Major was named Academic All-Big Ten and a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar last season.
