Indiana Softball Announces 2018 Schedule

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Softball unveiled its 2018 schedule on Friday, featuring 55 games, including 21 at Andy Mohr Field.
Highlights from the schedule include:
• Season opener set for Feb. 9 against Boise State in the Kajikawa Classic
• Home opener set for March 16 in the Hoosier Classic
• 16 games against 2017 NCAA Tournament participants, including defending champion Oklahoma
• 20 games against teams that finished in the 2017 RPI Top 65
• 13 games against teams that finished in the 2017 RPI Top 50
• Big Ten home series against Ohio State, Nebraska, Penn State and Michigan
• Big Ten road series at Michigan State, Maryland, Purdue and Rutgers
"We had a productive fall and we look forward to the 2018 season with Team 45," said head coach Shonda Stanton, who is entering her first season at the helm of the program. "The schedule has a solid balance in the caliber of teams to prepare and challenge us in raising our expectations of consistent post-season play. We host the Hoosier Classic and have great Big Ten matchups at home, which will give our fan base an opportunity to see outstanding softball at Andy Mohr Field."
The slate will open with 23-straight games away from Bloomington, including five tournaments. Indiana will officially kick off the campaign with its sixth straight trip to the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. to play a trio of 2017 NCAA Tournament participants (Oregon State, San Jose State and Arizona State). IU will face off against Boise State and Oregon State on Feb. 9. The Hoosiers will take on Northwestern and San Jose State on Saturday before closing out competition against tournament host Arizona State on Sunday.
Indiana next travels to Atlanta to participate in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge for the first time in the event's three-year history. The Hoosiers will play a pair of games against both Georgia Tech and Boston College.
The weekend of Feb. 23, Indiana will travel to Samford University for the second straight season to play a pair of games against the Bulldogs and two contests versus Lipscomb in Homewood, Ala.
Up next for Indiana is a trip to South Carolina for the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic, hosted by Furman and USC Upstate. The Hoosiers will twice face off against Upstate, who advanced to the 2017 NCAA Tournament and finished No. 38 in the final RPI. Indiana will also play a pair of games against Howard and a single showdown with Furman.
IU's final road tournament is a visit to the defending national champions in Norman, Okla. There, Indiana will play the Sooners once, Illinois State twice and round out the weekend against South Carolina, who also advanced to the NCAA Tournament and ended the season ranked No. 22 in the final RPI.
The Hoosiers will conclude its 23-game road swing by facing off with Kentucky in Lexington on March 14. The Wildcats are coming off a 2017 campaign that saw them advance to the NCAA Super Regionals and finished 18th in the RPI.
Indiana will open play at Andy Mohr Field on March 16 in the annual Hoosier Classic as the Hoosiers begin a 10-game homestand. IU will play host to UIC and Wisconsin Green Bay twice during the weekend, as well as a single game against Northwestern. Both contests against Northwestern this season will be considered non-conference.
After hosting regional rival Louisville on March 20, the Hoosiers officially begin Big Ten play at Andy Mohr Field against Ohio State for a three-game set beginning March 23. Indiana's homestand concludes with a midweek showdown against Western Kentucky on March 27.
Indiana's first conference road trip takes the Hoosiers to East Lansing, Mich. on March 30 for a three-game series against Michigan State. Other road Big Ten series include Maryland (April 13-15), Purdue (April 25 doubleheader) and Rutgers (May 4-6).
The Hoosiers play host to Nebraska April 6-8 before rounding out non-conference play with a doubleheader against Butler at Andy Mohr Field on April 10.
Indiana will also host Penn State (April 20-22) and Michigan (April 27-29) in home Big Ten action.
This year's Big Ten Tournament will be hosted by University of Wisconsin beginning on May 10 in Madison.
