Veatch Named National Athlete Of The Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Redshirt freshman Ben Veatch was named the NCAA Division I National Athlete of the Week by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.
The Carmel, Ind. native is coming off a record setting performance on Friday at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind. Veatch won the men's 5K race with the time of 13:57.27 breaking the USATF American Junior indoor record. The previous record was set in 2000 by Louis Luchini of Stanford University with the time of 14:08.37.
Veatch clinched in the No. 1 spot in the country with a three-second difference between him and No. 2 Jeff Thies of Portland University (14:00.55).
The national rankings are tracked and updated on Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) after every meet. The top-16 finishers in every event will earn a spot to the NCAA Championships in March at Texas A&M University. Stay up-to-date on the Hoosier athletes in the TFRRS rankings men and women.
Veatch and the Hoosiers will be back in action on January 6, 2018 when they host a dual meet against Tennessee at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse.
