
Veatch, Etienne and Dawson Named Big Ten Athletes Of The Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Hoosiers swept the men's track and field Big Ten Athlete of the Week awards and won the women's field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday after performances at the Hoosier Open on Dec. 8 to open up the indoor season.
Redshirt freshman Ben Veatch was named the men's track Big Ten Athlete of the Week award for his performance at the Hoosier Open. Veatch won the men's 5K race with the time of 13:57.27 setting a new USATF American Junior indoor record and clinched the No. 1 spot in the country. The last Hoosier to be named the men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week was Daniel Kuhn on February 3, 2016.
Freshman Jyles Etienne was named the men's field Big Ten Athlete of the Week after competing in his first collegiate meet of his career. The Nassau, Bahamas native set a new Hoosier Open record in the high jump with the mark of 2.21m (7'3"), which earned him the No. 2 spot in the country. Etienne is the first Hoosier to be named the men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week since Dylan Anderson in 2014.
Sophomore Khayla Dawson was named the women's field Big Ten Athlete of the Week after her third place finish in the women's shot put at the Hoosier Open. Dawson is currently ranked No. 3 in the country with the mark of 16.61m (54'6"). The Charlotte, NC native is the first Hoosier to be named the women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week since Sophie Gutermuth in 2014.
The Hoosiers will be back in action on January 6, 2018 at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse for the dual meet against Tennessee.
