Indiana Postgame Notes
Dec. 16, 2017
• For the second time in three years, IU overcame a second-half double-digit deficit to rally and defeat Notre Dame in the Crossroads Classic.
• In 2015, IU trailed by 16 in the second half before winning, 80-73. This year, IU trailed by 14 in the first half and 13 with 16:50 to go. Notre Dame also led by 8, 65-57 with 2:01 to go, and 73-69 with 1:59 left in overtime.
• IU is now 4-3 in the event and 3-1 against the Irish since the four-team classic began in 2011.
• This is the second time that an unranked IU team defeated a ranked team in this event. IU defeated #23 Butler in the event in 2014, 82-73. IU has lost twice as the higher ranked team against Butler in 2012 and in 2016.
• It was Archie Miller's first win against a nationally ranked team at Indiana.
• IU now leads the series 50-22, is 9-3 against the Irish in Indianapolis and has a 77-25 overall record in games played in Indianapolis.
• The Hoosiers rallied because they shot 57.1% in the second half and 71.4% in overtime. The defense was strong against one of the top offenses in the country limiting the Irish to 41.0% shooting and a 33% effort from beyond the arc.
• IU dominated the boards 41-32 and won the battle for second chance points, 14-9.
• Junior Juwan Morgan had a career-game with 34 points, including the last 12 in regulation, to go with 11 rebounds (2nd time in his career). He made 13 of 17 shots, both career-standards. He made a layup with 13 seconds to send the game into overtime and his dunk with 8 seconds proved to be the game winner. It was his fourth career double-double and third this season. He is the first Hoosier to have 30 points since Thomas Bryant had 31 against Penn State a year ago. He scored 14 straight points at the end of regulation and the start of overtime.
• Redshirt junior Zach McRoberts scored just one point, but he had an IU career-high 9 rebounds, including 7 of the offensive variety. His last offensive board off a missed Morgan free throw, was dished to Morgan for the go-ahead dunk.
• Coming off a scoreless effort against Louisville, senior Robert Johnson came back to post 20 points and made 4 of 5 three-pointers in the second half. He also hit a halfcourt shot that came after the halftime buzzer. It was his seventh career game of 20 points or better, including the 2nd this season.
• Sophomore Devonte Green came off the bench to score 12 points and also added 3 assists and 3 boards. He hit a three-pointer with 1:16 to cut the Irish lead to 1 point in overtime.
• Senior Collin Hartman played a season-high 29 minutes and hit two three-pointers.
• The Hoosiers return to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Monday night to take on Fort Wayne at 8 p.m. IU also will face Tennessee Tech on Thursday at 8 p.m. at home before taking a break for the Holiday's.
