
No. 16 Missouri Defeats Indiana Women’s Basketball at West Palm Invite

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. – Seniors Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill each put up double-figures but No. 16 Missouri got the best of Indiana Women's Basketball in the second half as it fell 75-55 at the West Palm Invite on Sunday.
Cahill scored a season-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds and two blocks while Buss added 14 points and tied a game-high six assists. Junior forward Kym Royster. The Hoosiers (6-5) struggled all around, shooting just 36.7 percent from the floor, 30.4 percent from 3-point range and 57.1 percent from the free throw line. Missouri also won the advantage on the boards, 46-28, and got 16 of its points on second-chance opportunities.
Royster started off with IU's first two buckets on the day as IU trailed by one, 5-4, with 6:46 remaining. Both teams then struggled from the field, going over a three-minute stretch without a field goal. Mizzou (10-1) pushed its lead to five before Cahill retaliated at the top of the key on a feed from Buss for three with 2:54 to play in the opening quarter. A bucket by freshman guard Jaelynn Penn gave IU the advantage and helped take a 13-11 lead after one complete.
But IU's offense went cold again, not scoring for nearly the first five minutes of action in the second quarter. But Missouri's lead didn't increase to more than four in that stretch as Cahill's jumper and 1-of-2 at the line for Penn kept IU within one, 17-16, with 4:22 remaining. Late in the quarter, Mizzou would go on a 7-0 run and as a 3-pointer by Amber Smith would force IU to call timeout. Buss would hit one of her three 3-pointers on the day with just 25 seconds remaining as the Tigers took a 28-21 advantage at the break.
The Tigers used its biggest advantage in the third quarter as it outscored Indiana, 28-14, in the frame including 17 of her 19 points from junior guard Sophia Cunningham. They would come out of halftime and push its lead up quickly to double digits as IU would never get any closer as it trailed 56-35 after three. The Hoosiers would take a slight advantage in the fourth quarter, 20-19, but eventually fell it its second ranked opponent of the season.
