
Five Hoosiers Earn All-America Honors from Top Drawer Soccer

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Five members of the Indiana University men's soccer team earned All-America accolades from Top Drawer Soccer on Monday.
Grant Lillard was named First-Team Best XI, while Andrew Gutman earned Third-Team Best XI honors. Both Mason Toye and Trey Muse were named First-Team Freshman Best XI, while Griffin Dorsey was named Second-Team Freshman Best XI.
The Hoosiers' five overall honors are the most of any team in the nation, while the three freshman accolades were also the best of any school in the country.
With the Top Drawer Soccer honors, both Lillard and Gutman were unanimous All-America selections, with Lillard being a consensus first-team selection. Gutman was named Second-Team All-America by both the United Soccer Coaches and College Soccer News.
Both Hinsdale, Ill. natives, the duo earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors this season, with Lillard being named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year unanimously. Both were also First-Team All-Midwest Region selections.
Gutman and Lillard were both stalwarts on the Hoosier backline, starting all 25 matches in 2017. The duo, along with Muse, helped the Hoosiers lead the NCAA in shutouts (18) and goals allowed (7).
Offensively, Gutman was second on the team with 18 points on the strength of seven goals and four assists, while Lillard notched two goals and two assists on the year. Adding to his list of accomplishments, Lillard was also named a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist.
Muse had one of the best single-season goalkeeping years in NCAA history, leading the country in shutouts (18), goals-against average (.260), save percentage (0.903) and goalie minutes played (2416:18). The Louisville, Ky. native was named Second-Team All-Big Ten and to the Big Ten All-Freshman team.
His 18 shutouts match the NCAA and Indiana single-season records and set the Big Ten mark, while his GAA is tied for the fourth-best in NCAA history and set the Big Ten record. Muse's save percentage is tied for the 16th best all-time, while his seven goals allowed is tied for the fewest surrendered in Big Ten history.
Toye made an immediate impact for the Hoosiers, earning First-Team All-Big Ten, First-Team All-Midwest Region and Big Ten All-Freshman Team accolades. The South Orange, N.J. product was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
The rookie led the Hoosiers and tied for the Big Ten lead with 10 goals on the season and also dished out a pair of assists in 2017. Toye appeared in all 25 matches, earning 21 starts.
Dorsey had a memorable first year for Indiana as well, earning Second-Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors. The Evergreen, Colo. native scored three goals and tallied six assists on the season, starting all 23 matches in which he appeared for the Hoosiers.
