BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana redshirt junior wide receiver Simmie Cobbs Jr. announced he will forgo his final season of eligibility and enter the 2018 NFL Draft.
"We would like to thank Simmie Cobbs for all that he has given to the Indiana Hoosiers over the last four years," head coach Tom Allen said. "He had a tremendous career here at IU and we wish him nothing but the very best as he pursues his career in the National Football League."
A 2017 consensus first team All-Big Ten selection, Cobbs shares fourth with seven 100-yard games, is eighth with 139 receptions and ninth with 1,990 receiving yards on the Hoosiers career lists.
Cobbs finished second in the conference in catches (72, T-21st nationally), third in yardage (841, 47th), shared fourth in receiving touchdowns (8, T-34th) and tied for 10th in total TDs (9) last season. His 72 receptions are tied for fourth on the school's single-season chart, his three 100-yard games are tied for eighth and his eight receiving scores are tied for 10th.
The Oak Park, Ill., native accounted for half of the league's six double-digit catch games in 2017, which tied for third among Power 5 wideouts. Cobbs is the lone receiver in the Big Ten and one of eight Power 5 receivers with three 10-plus catch games in 2017.
He opened the year with a career-high 11 grabs for 149 yards with one TD against No. 2 Ohio State. Cobbs made 10 receptions for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns at Maryland, pulled in 10 balls for 98 yards against Charleston Southern, and closed out the year with seven catches for 105 yards and one score at Purdue.
