NOTES: Hoosiers Return From Holiday Break to Host Youngstown State

OPENING TIP
• The 118th season of Indiana basketball continues on Friday when the Hoosiers host Youngstown State. The Hoosiers are coming off an 87-59 win at home against Tennessee Tech, while the Penguins fell at Utah State, 91-74.
• This will be the first meeting between the two programs and the final non-conference game for the Hoosiers. IU is 18-4 all-time against teams that are currently in the Horizon League.

THE COACHES
• Archie Miller is the 29th head coach in Indiana men's basketball history. The 39-year old native of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, comes to IU after serving the previous six seasons as head coach at the University of Dayton, where he won Atlantic 10 Conference regular season championships in 2016 and 2017. He was Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2017. He guided the Flyers to a 139-63 record (69.8) and a 68-34 mark (66.7) in the Atlantic 10. He took Dayton to the NCAA Tournament each of the last four years, with the Flyers advancing to the Elite Eight in the 2014 Tournament. UD was nationally ranked in 3 of Miller's 6 seasons (2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16).
• Jerrod Calhoun, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, is in his first year at Youngstown State and spent the last five seasons as the head coach at Fairmont State and accumulated an overall record of 124-38. He guided FSU to the NCAA Division II Tournament in each of the last three years and four times overall. The Falcons won at least 20 games in each of his five seasons and won nearly 80 percent of their conference games.

• IU will resume Big Ten play at Wisconsin (Jan. 2) and at Minnesota (Jan. 6).
• Junior Juwan Morgan is second in the Big Ten in scoring (18.8) during the month of December. He is third in rebounding (9.3) and seventh in field goal percentage (59.5%).
• Senior Robert Johnson has averaged 16.3 points in his last three games. He had 20 against Notre Dame and 17 against Fort Wayne. Johnson is now in 39th place on the IU all-time scoring list with 1,141 points and sixth on the school's all-time list with 195 treys. Cody Zeller is 38th with 1,157 career points and Tom Coverdale is fifth all-time with 200 three-point field goals.
• Redshirt junior walk-on Zach McRoberts has averaged 8.5 points in his last two games. He had an IU career-high nine points against Fort Wayne and added eight against Tennessee Tech. He also is averaging 6.0 rebounds in the last three games.
• Fifth-year senior Collin Hartman had a career-high 12 rebounds against Fort Wayne. Since the 2014-15 season, IU is 51-24 in games he has played and 20-21 in games he has not played during that time frame.
• Fifth-year senior Josh Newkirk is coming off a season-high 20 points against Tennessee Tech. The Hoosiers are 4-1 when he scores 17 or more during his career.
• IU tied its season-best with 87 points against Tennessee Tech. IU is 5-1 when scoring 80 points or more this season.
• The Hoosiers posted a 76.0 percent effort from the free throw line against the Golden Eagles (19/25). IU is 5-0 when they shoot better than 70 percent from the line this season.
• Graduate forward Collin Hartman is back for a fifth year. The Indianapolis Cathedral product suffered a left knee injury in a non-contact drill and underwent surgery and did not play during the 2016-17 season. Hartman started 24 games for the eventual Big Ten champions in 2016, averaging 5.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He broke his wrist in the Big Ten Tournament against Michigan, but played in all three of IU's games that year as the Hoosiers played in the Sweet Sixteen. He had 11 points in 16 minutes against Duke and had a career-high 12 rebounds against Fort Wayne. He followed that up with a season-high 13 points against Iowa. He earned the team's most recent Gold Standard Jersey.
• Senior guard Robert Johnson has been a starter for 100 of the 111 games he has been healthy to play since joining the team in 2014-15. He earned the team's third Gold Standard jersey. The newest member of IU's 1,000-point club is averaging 12.5 points per game after his 20-point effort against Notre Dame and 17 points against Fort Wayne.
• Senior guard Josh Newkirk has started 44 career games He is coming off a season-high 20-point, 6 assist effort against Tennessee Tech. He had 17 points against Eastern Michigan, hitting on 5 of 6 3-pointers. He earned the team's 4th Gold Standard jersey.
• Junior forward Juwan Morgan has started 32 career games and leads the team in scoring (15.2), rebounds (7.3) and free throws made (54). He earned the team's second Gold Standard jersey. In the last 3 games, he has averaged 19.0 points and 9.7 rebounds.

He had 14 points in the opener and notched career-high's in points (17) and minutes played (29) against Howard. He is third in the Big Ten in field goal percentage (64.6%). He had 14 points, 7 boards and 3 blocks against Louisville.
• Sophomore guard Devonte Green is contributing 10.0 points in the last 3 games. He energized the team off the bench with 12 points and 4 assists against Iowa and 12 against UND. He was the first player to earn the right to wear a gold jersey in practice. That is given to the player who has displayed a Gold Standard in his play.
