
Indiana Starts Off The Season Strong At The Hoosier Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University track and field team opened their 2017-18 season at the Hoosier Open Friday evening and it was a record breaking performance.
The Hoosiers dominated the 5K race on both the men's and women's end. Redshirt junior Katherine Receveur won the women's race with the time of 15:48.10, which set a new facility record at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse and a new meet record. Redshirt freshman Ben Veatch won the men's race with the time of 13:57.27, which as of now, is the number one 5K time in the Nation. Veatch's performance also breaks the American Junior record in the 5K (14:08.37).
Redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau broke his Hoosier Open record from last year (8:14.51) and claimed the number one spot in the Nation in the 3000m race with the time of 8:07.44.
The men took the top-3 spots in the 1000m race. This powerhouse was led by redshirt senior Jordan Huntoon finished first with the time of 2:25.29 followed by redshirt freshman Teddy Browning who finished second with the time of 2:25.67 and ended with redshirt freshman Marcus Ellington who finished third with the time of 2:28.47.
Junior Kelsey Harris led the Hoosiers to sweep the 1000m race crossing the finish with the time of 2:50.07. Redshirt freshman Grace Walther finished right behind Harris with the time of 2:50.38. Sophomore Joley Pinkston nabbed third place with redshirt freshman Hannah Stoffel claiming fourth place to close up the Hoosier sweep.
Junior Haley Harris won the women's mile race with the time of 4:52.55.
Senior Daniel Kuhn had a dominating performance in the men's 500m crossing with the time of 1:01.35, which set a new facility record, a new meet record and taking the number one spot in the Nation by two-seconds (1:03.39).
Junior Adam Wallace finished behind Kuhn with the time of 1:03.06 and true freshman Zubin Muncherji finished fourth in his first collegiate meet with the time of 1:04.38.
Senior Kendell Wiles set a personal record in the women's 500m when she crossed second with the time of 1:11.63. True freshman Natalie Price finished third in her first collegiate meet with the time of 1:12.63.
The Hoosiers also were strong in the field at the Hoosier Open.
Junior Willie Morrison competed unattached and won the men's shot put. Morrison broke his Hoosier Open record from last year (19.47m) with the mark of 19.50m (63'11 ¾"). Junior David Schall placed second with the mark of 18.28m (59'11 ¾").
The Hoosiers were strong in the weight throw Friday evening. All three women threw personal records: Nycia Ford with 19.29m (63'3"), Princess Brinkley with 19.04m (62'5") and Madison Pollard with 17.59m (57'8"). On the men's side, redshirt senior Andrew Miller threw his second career best with the mark of 21.03m (69'0") and true freshman Nick Lane had an outstanding performance for his first collegiate meet with the mark of 19.72m (64'8").
Freshman Jyles Etienne handled the pressure of his first collegiate meet by setting a new met record in the high jump with the mark of 2.21m (7'3"), which puts him the second in the Nation.
The Hoosiers will be back in action at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse on January 6, 2018 for the dual meet against Tennessee.
