Hoosiers Sweep Blue Demons, Jaguars

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team came away with two convincing victories as they scored 7-0 wins DePaul and IUPUI on Saturday at the IU Tennis Center.
The Hoosiers (7-5) took the doubles point from DePaul (4-6) when the No. 1 doubles team of Madison Appel and Natalie Whalen won 7-5. Indiana and DePaul split the other two doubles matches.
Senior Paula Gutierrez won the first singles match for the Hoosiers when she won 6-2, 6-4 at two singles. Whalen followed with a 6-0, 6-4 victory and senior Kim Schmider clinched the match for Indiana with a 6-3, 6-2 win at six singles.
Caitlin Bernard and Pauline Jahren also won matches for the Hoosiers against the Blue Demons. Bernard came back after dropping her first set, 6-3, to win the next two, 6-0, 6-2.
Against IUPUI (2-11), the Hoosiers won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
The Hoosiers won all six first sets and won all six singles matches in straight sets for the 7-0 victory.
Freshmen Anna McCoy and Emma Love picked up their first career victories in dual match play. McCoy won 6-2, 6-2 on court six and Love won 6-2, 6-2 on court five.
Up next the Hoosiers host West Virginia and Southern Illinois Carbondale on Saturday March 4.
