
Hoosiers Sweep Final Day of Samford/UAB Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Indiana Softball swept both games of the final day in the Samford/UAB Tournament, defeating Murray State, 6-4, before shutting out UAB, 2-0.
The Hoosiers (6-8) finished the weekend with a 4-1 record in Birmingham, after also picking up wins against Iowa State and UAB on Friday. The lone loss was a Saturday setback to Samford.
Indiana 6, Murray State 4
In the day's first game, the Hoosiers put up a four-run seventh inning for the comeback victory. Indiana saw three-hit performances from senior Erin Lehman and junior Aimilia McDonough as the Hoosiers put up a season-high 12 base knocks.
Sophomore pitcher Emily Goodin took home the win as she tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits and striking out three.
McDonough, who finished the weekend batting a team-best .467 with seven hits, continued her hot streak with a double to center in the second, but a fielder's choice prevented Indiana from capitalizing.
The Racers got on the board in the home half of the second as a throwing error to first allowed Maggie Glass and Maddy Feeney to score.
Lehman responded in the third, leading off the frame with a single up the middle and advancing to second on a Racer fielding error. A groundout by freshman Gabbi Jenkins moved her to third before she scored via a Murray State fielding error on senior CaraMia Tsirigos' grounder to short.
A pair of singles put two on for the Racers to lead off the fourth, before two Trainer strikeouts. However, a single up the middle would load the bags and allow Glass to score on a wild pitch to make it 3-1.
Lehman's second hit of the came on a single up the middle to start the fifth before advancing to second as junior Rebecca Blitz earned a walk. A fielder's choice took Lehman off the base paths, but Tsirigos plated Blitz on a single up the middle.
The Racers got that run back on a solo homer from Jessica Twaddle to make it 4-2, but Goodin stepped in the circle in relief and retired the first three batters she faced.
Lehman got the rally started in the final frame, which saw Indiana collect seven hits, leading off with a solo homer to center to cut the deficit to 4-3. It was the first of the season for the senior and the fourth of the weekend for Indiana.
Singles by Blitz and Tsirigos put two on for Indiana with one out, setting up junior Taylor Uden's game-tying single through the left side. McDonough's third hit broke through the middle, plating pinch runner Sarah Galovich to give Indiana the lead. The final Hoosier run came on a single by freshman Katie Lacefield to bring in Uden.
Indiana 2, UAB 0
In the final game of the weekend, the Hoosiers outlasted UAB in a pitchers' duel, breaking a 0-0 stalemate in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Lacefield.

Indiana put two on in the first off singles by Blitz and Jenkins, but they were left on base. Blitz led all batters with two hits in the game.

The Blazers put runners in scoring position in each of the first five innings, but the Indiana defense continually worked out of trouble, including a diving grab by Lehman at second to end the fourth.
