BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana will be the No. 4 seed in the 2017 Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament this week at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, as announced by the conference office on Sunday.
As a top four seed in the 14-team format, the Hoosiers earn a double bye into the quarterfinals and will play their first game of the tournament on Friday, March 3 at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET. The tournament will take place March 1-5.
It marks back-to-back years that the Hoosiers have earned the No. 4 seed and earn consecutive top 4 finishes in the Big Ten since 1984-85 and 1985-86.
IU will have to wait on the outcomes of games taking place on Wednesday and Thursday to determine its quarterfinal opponent. On Wednesday, 13th-seeded Nebraska will take on 12th-seeded Illinois. The winner of that contest will play fifth-seeded Purdue on Thursday, March 2 to determine who the Hoosiers will face on Friday afternoon.
Every game of the tournament will be televised with 12 games being featured on BTN, including Indiana's quarterfinal contest on Friday. ESPN2 will carry the championship game on Sunday, March 5 at 7 p.m. ET.
The Hoosiers have posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in school history. They hold a 20-9 overall record and 10-6 mark in Big Ten play coming into Friday's quarterfinal game.
IU is 15-21 all-time in the Big Ten Tournament. This year will mark the 13th time IU has played in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament and last won the Big Ten Tournament title in 2002.
