BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Following a no-hitter against UAB and a 3-1 overall record in the Samford/UAB Tournament, Indiana Softball freshman Emily Goodin has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Goodin registered a 0.88 ERA in 16.0 innings of work over the weekend, allowing just seven combined hits and two walks with two earned runs. The Evansville native struck out 10 and made a pair of starts in Birmingham.
On Friday against UAB, Goodin retired all but two batters faced in the no-hitter, the first for Indiana since Tara Trainer's on March 12, 2016. The righty tossed five strikeouts in the outing, which was also her first complete game of her career.
Goodin earned a pair of victories on Sunday, both coming in relief appearances as the Hoosiers defeated Murray State and UAB. Against the Racers, Goodin went 3.0 scoreless innings in Indiana's 6-4 comeback win. In her second victory versus the Blazers of the tournament, Goodin again went 3.0 scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit and a walk.
The honor is the first of the season for Indiana. Trainer and Josie Wood combined for four Freshman of the Week accolades last season.
