BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Big Ten Conference announced today that Indiana junior Raheel Manji was named Athlete of the Week for men's tennis.
"Raheel has been working hard and preparing well for all of our matches," IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "It is great for him to receive this honor."
This honor came for Manji after he defeated a Princeton doubles team ranked No. 16 in the country and a singles player from the Tigers, ranked No. 109 in the country.
"It means a lot to be recognized by such a prestigious conference like the Big Ten for my play," Manji said. "It is a great indicator of the work and care, myself and my teammates have put in, as well as the great coaching, preparation and thought, coach Wurtzman and assistant coach Mike Murray have put forward. I am very excited to see the progression of the team this season."
Manji is the first Hoosier to receive the recognition since Sam Monette on February 2, 2016.
Through six matches, Manji has posted a 3-1 record at No. 1 singles and a 3-0 record in doubles.
"I also want to credit my doubles partner junior Keivon Tabrizi as he has been so solid and is half the reason we beat the number 16 team in the nation in doubles," Manji said.
Up next, the Hoosiers take on the Louisville Cardinals, Wed. February 8 at 6:00 PM in the IU Tennis Center.
