IU Falls to Wisconsin in Big Ten Tournament

WASHINGTON, D.C. - No. 10-seeded Indiana fell to No. 2-seeded Wisconsin on Friday night in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals, 70-60, at the Verizon Center.
 
The Hoosiers (18-15) saw four in double figures in scoring, led by 17 points and eight rebounds from James Blackmon Jr. on 7-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-6 from downtown. Juwan Morgan added 14 points and seven boards, while Robert Johnson scored 13 points with seven rebounds and Devonte Green contributed 13 points.
 
Indiana shot 41.1 percent as a team and was 9-of-22 from the 3-point line while Wisconsin connected on 47.4 percent from the floor and 10-of-22 from long range. The Hoosiers also held a 26-22 lead in points in the paint and 14-11 in second chance points after corralling 11 offensive rebounds.
 
The Badgers jumped out to a 11-6 lead less than five minutes into the contest, but Indiana responded with a 14-5 run to take a 20-16 edge with 11:12 left in the first half following a Green jumper in the lane. Wisconsin would battle back late in the first half and held the Hoosiers to just seven points over the final nine minutes of the first half and took a 33-27 advantage into the halftime locker room.
 
Blackmon carried the IU offense through the first 20 minutes, connecting on a pair of 3-point field goals on his way to 10 points and also grabbing five rebounds.
 
Indiana scored on its first two possessions of the second half, but Wisconsin was up to the task and was able to extend their lead to 43-33 just five minutes into the second half. The Badgers would lead by as many as 15 points with eight minutes left.
 
However, Indiana did not have any intention of letting the game get out of hand and mounted a rally. With Wisconsin holding a 64-53 lead with 2:23 remaining, IU used a quick 7-0 run to cut the deficit to just four points at 64-60 with 1:21 left on a 3-pointer by Blackmon.
 
In that final 1:21, Wisconsin connected on four free throws and a layup to provide the final margin at 70-60.
